Food Security: OYSG Pledges Readiness to Support groups

As part of its continues effort to enhance food security, Oyo State Government has pledged to support all registered farmers’ groups by providing modern farming methods to increase yields and necessary inputs.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Oladunkanmi Olaleye affirmed this while addressing the newly elected executive members of the Association of Cattle Dealers, Oyo State chapter, who was in a courtesy visit to his ministry.
Oladunkanmi noted that ministry of agriculture is interested in collaborating individual and farmer’s groups as part of its responsibilities to have adequate data of farmers in the state and by extension would helped them(farmers) to enjoy dividends of democracy, stressing that government would work closely with registered farmers’ groups to ensure effective implementation and knowledge sharing, provision of essential inputs, such as quality seeds, fertilizers and necessary vaccination , to support their agricultural endeavors.
According to him, we are ready to collaborate all farmers in the state by providing training and resources to farmers to adopt modern farming techniques, boosting their productivity and efficiency.
Olasunksnmi, hinted that the present government under the watch of Engr. Seyi Makinde realized that food can only be surplus if farmers are supported with various manpower and equipments, hence the various input given to the farmers in the state. He hinted that about 95,000 cattle have been vaccinated, about 7420 fertilizers have been given to farmers free also 50% tractorization subsidy is ongoing.
The Commissioner therefore, urged the association to see themselves as one and pledged government’s readiness to continue supporting farmers across the state to ensure food security and increase standard of living for farmers.
In his address, the Chairman, Association of Cattle Dealers, Oyo State Chapter, Alhaji Ademola Rabiu, noted that the visit was to familiarize with the Commissioner and the ministry at large as well as to inform government on the hardship faced by the cattle business owners.
He stressed that the association cut across all the local governments in the state and are the only and recognized body in cattle business.
The association chairman, pledged their on alloyed support to government and promised to made available lists of it’s authentic members.
In her remarks, the Association Matron, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, Professor, Mrs. Ola-Davids commended state government for various support farmers in the state had enjoyed most especially animal husbandry, saying that the association’s aimed was to collaborate and support government’s effort in fighting hunger from the state and the country at large.
She therefore enjoined government to intensify efforts in supporting cattle dears.
