Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN Chairperson, Mrs Abisola Adabanija has celebrated 39 female engineering graduates from the University of Ibadan as they were inducted into the engineering profession out of a total of 295 inductees, representing approximately 13.2% of the new engineers.
The Chairperson Ibadan Chapter of the Association pointed out that “While we celebrate these incredible women, we must also recognize that the gender gap in engineering still needs to be addressed. Globally, women represent 25% of engineers, while in Nigeria, that number is between 10-15%. With just 36 women out of 295 inductees, we have a long way to go in bridging the gap. APWEN will continue to push for greater inclusion, visibility, and support for women in this vital field.
The APWEN Chairperson Ibadan Chapter, Engr. Raheemat Adabanija encouraged the graduates to stay focused, innovative, and continue breaking barriers as they moved forward in their careers, having successfully crossed the significant hurdle of graduation, these young women are now poised to contribute their skills and ideas to the world of engineering.
During the ceremony, APWEN also recognized 7 of the best graduating female students across various engineering departments for their outstanding Achievements with awards of excellence.

Department of Civil Engineering: Amoo Aishat (3.65)
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering: Adesina Tantoluwa Oluseyi (3.63)
Department of Industrial and Production Engineering: Oseni Latifat Omolara (3.82)
Department of Mechanical Engineering: Nwaigwe Kelechi Prudence (3.66)
Department of Petroleum Engineering: Abdulwasiu Ubaydah (3.72)
Department of Wood Products Engineering: Okoye Christabel Ifunaya (3.52)
And the Overall Best Graduating Female Student:
Oseni Latifat Omolara (Industrial and Production Engineering) with a CGPA of 3.82 .
APWEN celebrates these incredible women for their hard work, dedication, and excellence, and we look forward to seeing the amazing impact they will make in the engineering profession. However, we still have much work to do in ensuring that more women are represented and empowered in the field of engineering.
