The Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers, Ibadan Chapter, Engineer Mrs, Abisola Adabanija has said that the association organised Inter-School Debate to stimulate critical thinking in public speaking skills and to promote deeper understanding of technology among the secondary school students.
She stated this during the inter-school debate and mental health talk for the selected secondary schools in Oyo State with the Theme: “Social Media, The Doubled-Edged Sword Navigating it’s Impact on Youth Mental Health” held at Local Government House Mini-Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan.
She pointed out that the association has celebrated numerous landmark days, including the International Day for Girls in Science, International Women’s Day, and the International Day of the Girl Child, among many others.
She said, “We believe that engaging in such intellectual debates will stimulate critical thinking and public speaking skills and also encourage a deeper understanding of technology’s role among the tomorrow’s leaders”.
She continued “We are grateful to our sponsors, Found Africa Technology, CloudWare Technology, and others, whose generous support has made today’s event possible. Your contributions are vital to our mission and greatly appreciated”.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Salihu Adelabu commended the association for organizing the debate for the student of the secondary schools.
Professor Adelabu added that the debate would encourage, enhance and prepare the students for the future challenges.
Also speaking at the event. The Chief Executive Officer, Found Digital Classroom for Africa, Mr. Jide Aboderin said his organization would collaborate with the State Government to build digital classrooms in five selected schools which according to him would materialize in the first quarter of the year 2025.
Aboderin said the initiative would further enhance the learning experience and bridge the digital divide in the educational system of the country.
