The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has concluded arrangements to honour Hon. Gbenga Ayinde Adewusi, popularly known as “Arole,” in recognition of his notable contributions to grassroots governance, public service, and community development.
According to an official statement made available to journalists, Adewusi will be decorated with the prestigious title of Icon of Ibadan Heritage at a grand ceremony slated for April 16, 2026, at Omololu Olunloyo Park, Airport Area, Ibadan.
The Council said the honour is in acknowledgment of Adewusi’s impressive record during his tenure as Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, where he earned commendation for impactful leadership, infrastructural interventions, and people-centred policies.
CCII also cited his meritorious service as Board Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, noting that he demonstrated administrative capacity and made meaningful contributions to the advancement of sports development in the state.
Describing him as a worthy ambassador of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage, the Council stated that the award is reserved for distinguished sons and daughters of Ibadanland who have shown integrity, excellence, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to the progress of the ancient city.
“The recognition of Hon. Gbenga Ayinde Adewusi ‘Arole’ reflects our continued commitment to celebrating sons and daughters of Ibadan who uphold the values, traditions, and developmental aspirations of our people,” the statement read.
The ceremony is expected to attract traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, and eminent sons and daughters of Ibadanland, as the city gathers to celebrate one of its distinguished public figures.
The conferment of the Icon of Ibadan Heritage honour on Adewusi is widely seen as a testament to his enduring legacy in public service and his commitment to the growth, unity, and cultural pride of Ibadanland.
